AARI

AARI

Aari embroidery is a traditional form of hand embroidery from India
It developed during the Mughal period and was widely used in regions such as Kashmir, Gujarat and Punjab. This embroidery was originally made for royalty and wealthy families. It was used to decorate garments, shawls and household textiles. Because of its fine detail, it became associated with luxury and craftsmanship

Aari embroidery is done using a special hooked needle called an aari needle. The fabric is stretched tightly on a frame to keep it steady. The artisan moves the needle by hand to create continuous stitches

Threads, beads, sequins and sometimes stones are added to form patterns. Designs are often inspired by nature, floral forms, folklore, and geometric shapes. Today, Aari embroidery is used in clothing and home furnishings. It continues to be valued for its skill tradition and detailed handwork
